History

The idea of a European Development Economics Group (EDEG) was conceived at the end of 2023 by a small number of national associations focused on Development Economics and quickly expanded to include the French Association of Development Economics (AFEDEV), the Italian Association of Development Economics (SITES), the Dutch Development Economics Network (DuDE), the Network of Irish-Based Development Economists (NIDE), the Spanish Network of Development Economics (SPANDE), and the Standing Field Committee for Development Economics of the German Economic Association.

Mission

EDEG was founded to address the need for a unifying platform for development economists across Europe, fostering collaboration and shared goals. Our mission is to build an inclusive and influential community of development economists throughout Europe.

EDEG immediate objective is to facilitate the organisation of a rotating annual European Conference in Development Economics, hosted in a different European country each year, with a local team taking the lead on organising the event.

Longer-term objectives include launching joint initiatives focused on training, networking, and job market opportunities, as well as facilitating the communication of relevant conferences, activities, and other collaborative efforts.
